About the testbed

The Communications Testbed for existing, emerging and future technologies is a facility that provides researchers, innovators, academia, and industry players with FREE ACEESS to advanced ICT technologies to conceptualize, simulate, develop, test and validate new solutions that can be applied in Uganda and beyond.

Designed to accelerate technological innovation, the Testbed integrates hardware setups, software configurations, Open APIs, datasets, and test terminals, enabling users to explore and validate future technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). This platform facilitates the journey from concept to prototype, experimental validation, and deployable solutions.

The UCC Testbed is open to a wide range of users from different sectors, all of whom can take advantage of the cutting-edge tools and resources available FREE OF CHARGE

Free access to conduct research, run experiments, and develop projects in emerging & future technologies – leveraging advanced tools, software, and data sets for hands-on learning, exploring real-world applications and validating theoretical concepts.

Free access to large datasets, specialized software and
high-speed computing for analysis, algorithm optimization, signal processing, and machine learning, etc.

Free access for prototyping, testing, and validating new ICT solutions across several technologies and verticals - leveraging high- performance software and hardware resources.

Free access to simulate, develop, test and validate new products and services in a controlled environment, ensuring they meet standards for functionality, security, and reliability before deployment – leveraging existing
infrastructure to minimize  costs and accelerate time-to-market.

Free access to evaluate and implement ICT solutions that support policy objectives and enhance public service delivery - leveraging the testbed’s resources to assess the impact of new technologies.

What’s Available

The Testbed is an ongoing initiative, currently offering a limited set of resources with plans for expansion. UCC welcomes collaboration with other organizations to enhance resource availability and is committed to developing a fully integrated, federated testbed facility.​

The primary mandate of UCC is to regulate the Communications sector, which includes Telecommunications, Broadcasting, radio communication, postal communications, data communication and infrastructure.
